Premium IOL's
Premium Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) are advanced lens implants used in cataract surgery to replace the eye's natural lens that has become clouded due to cataracts. Unlike standard monofocal IOLs that offer clear vision at only one distance (usually far), premium IOLs provide additional visual benefits, addressing a range of vision issues and reducing the need for glasses or contact lenses after surgery.
Types of Premium IOLs:
- Multifocal IOLs:
- Function: Provide clear vision at multiple distances (near, intermediate, and far).
- Benefits: Reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses or bifocals. Ideal for people who want to be less dependent on glasses for various tasks like reading, using a computer, and driving.
- Accommodating IOLs:
- Function: Move or change shape inside the eye to allow focusing at different distances.
- Benefits: Mimic the natural accommodation of the eye, providing good vision at multiple distances with less dependency on glasses.
- Toric IOLs:
- Function: Correct astigmatism in addition to cataracts.
- Benefits: Provide clearer vision for patients with astigmatism, reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses specifically for astigmatism correction.
- Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) IOLs:
- Function: Extend the range of clear vision, providing a continuous range of focus from near to far.
- Benefits: Provide a broader range of clear vision, especially useful for intermediate tasks like using a computer and performing household chores, while still offering good distance vision.
Benefits of Premium IOLs:
- Improved Vision Quality: Enhanced visual acuity at multiple distances.
- Reduced Dependence on Glasses: Many patients find they no longer need to wear glasses or need them less frequently after surgery.
- Customized Vision Correction: Ability to address specific vision issues such as astigmatism, presbyopia, and the need for multifocal vision.
